FAQ's and other pieces of info:

Will your label sign and pimp out my death metal band?

Probably not. For one, we aren't really good at that--not for death metal anyway. Two, we aren't really into death metal. I personally think death metal is ok, but some of the other people that run this label wouldn't touch it with someone else's 10 foot stick. And besides, I don't want to be responsible for bringing another band into the world that uses the term "viking" to describe their music. It's all fine and wonderful, but not for us. Thanks though.

What about hip hop?

The underground world of hip hop is a vast network of enterprising kids who have taken the punk ethos and exploded into a whole other stratosphere and I love and respect them for that. But again, dammit, I don't have a clue how to deal with it. Besides, hip hop requires a certain amount of bling. I barely pay rent. Our label would have no money for bling. Angura out of Asheville is looking for interesting hip hop/electronica music, but probably the more artier side of it--that whole Definitive Juxx kind of spin, not that I am putting words in their mouth or anything. Try them. If that doesn't work, move further into the dirty south, wear something that says South Pole on it, and do copy everything Biggie did. Except for getting shot. No one wants you shot. No matter what your talent is.

What level or type of distro does your label have?

I have a car and I know where plenty of record stores are. As of now, that's all we are going on. You kind of have to have a record out to have a record distributed. We are going on consignment. It worked for K, and dammit, if it's good enough for Calvin, it's good enough for me.

Where do you foresee SAID in five years?

There are several options:  1) basking in the glorious glow of our piles of gold as we just sold off Loafers Glory to Warner for 500,000 and 4 points and their album had just went double platinum; 2) bankrupt and footnoted in the Trouser Record Press; 3) laboring in obscurity; 4) somewhere between 1 and 3.

Where can I find SAID releases?

When they come out you have several options:
1 - buy direct from us via this wonderful website.
2-  catch our acts as they come through your hometown and bug the cute girl or gristly guy at the merch table for one
3-  go to good record stores like Green Eggs, Record Exchange, In Your Ear--or any other places we conned into taking our stuff.
4-  mail order using our catalog
5-  call us and ask for one

Do you take unsolicited material?

Of course. Doesn't mean we don't do more than pop it in the cd player,  laugh, and discard it, but we do take it.

Why are you guys so mean?

We are not mean or cruel in what we do as a label. We have an aesthetic and our discerning about our business and personal choices. We live and die by our choices and are thus careful and considerate when making said choices. If we turn down your band or do anything else that upsets anyone, don't take it personal. We love music. We also love staying out of debt and keeping a reputation that we desire and feel befitting our company. We do what we must, but we do it after deep thought. We vow to be a record label, not a big business. We wore bore from the salt and there we will stay. We have no desire to ape corporate America and emulate the faltering economics and MO of giant labels (or indies who copy and act like majors for that matter). We work with people we respect and who share the same values as we do. Part of it is survival. Part of it is calling.
