SAID records...

We look at things from the punk perspective. That's the most important thing. The second most important thing to say is that we care about music and our artists. Whether the band we are working with is on our label or just donating a song to our "The Hills Are Alive..." series, we do everything we possibly can to promote them and represent them in the best way possible. We work only with bands who are passionate about what they do and who strive to be creative in doing it.

We try to represent ourselves and our bands in everything we do. We don't seek to screw them over like other labels might. We keep our costs low in order to sell everything under ten dollars. By keeping our costs low, we can offer great music to people for cheap, and still be able to keep ourselves and our bands afloat. No one gets rich, but no one gets left behind. And besides, 18 dollars for a CD is ridiculous by anyone's math.

We don't stick to one particular style either. We stay in our genre--which we define as underground or punk or whatever. The name doesn't matter. To us there is good music and bad music. We work with the former, not the latter. And we always will.

We also believe in our region and in being a regional label. There are great things going on in Roanoke, Asheville, Cullowhee, Franklin, Johnson City, Knoxville and all the towns in between. These bands should be heard, need to be heard, must be heard. That's where we come in.

I have grown up with this community and I plan on growing old with it. Punk is not a fashion or a sound--its a lifestyle choice. It's about choices. I won't get on the soap box, as I am known for doing, but I will say that we want you to do a couple of things:

1) buy indie - it helps bands, the community, artists and people who care
2) go to shows - same thing. it supports the band and community. plus, shows are loads of fun anyway.
3) star your own label, zine, band or whatever - this keeps things going. don't just take from the community, give back to it.

Thanks.
